Portneuf Valley Peonies began as a dream between two engineers who wanted to build a small flower farm in the beautiful Portneuf Valley.

Theo and Melissa met while studying chemical engineering at the University of Idaho. Their careers brought them to Pocatello in 2010, where they settled into a quiet subdivision and expected to stay. But after years of neighborhood living, they realized something was missing—land, trees, and the sense of freedom they’d both grown up with.

In 2020, they found it. A beautiful three-and-a-half-acre property opened the door to country living, and they embraced it wholeheartedly. Wide skies, pasture grass, and room to breathe felt like coming home.

The idea for a flower farm arrived the following fall, thanks to Melissa’s sister Crystal, who suggested planting peonies in the pasture. The vision of rows of romantic blooms swaying in the Idaho breeze captured Melissa instantly. Soon after, their first 540 peony roots were ordered and planted with equal parts excitement and hope.

What started as a simple idea has grown into a thriving boutique flower farm. Today, Portneuf Valley Peonies nurtures just over 1,000 roots across 15 stunning varieties—each one tended by hand, with care, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the land that made it possible.
